The staff and students of Peter Van Alst/PS171Q will engage in high expectations for all students, to prepare them to have a voice in the world by:
- In ELA, focus on improving instruction across grades in Standard 2 (determining main idea and summarizing text) and Standard 3 by incorporating additional opportunities for students to respond to text with structured responses referring back to text evidence, and engaging in discussions about the text with student discussion protocols.
- In Math, focus on improving numbers and operations across grades, focusing on students' understanding of how numbers and operations relate and are able to discuss and explain problem solving steps using math talks protocols and student evaluation of peer work protocols.
- Continuing to strengthen core instruction in math and ELA by ensuring that planning and personalized learning centers are informed by the use of data (academic screeners, regular classroom assessments), progress monitoring and goal setting in classroom instruction, observations, and communication with families.
- Students will engage in personal goal setting based on data chats in response to regular classroom assessments in math and ELA.
- Teachers will engage in planning, data meetings, and professional learning focused on improving progress monitoring to better align instruction and adjusting the outcomes of ongoing assessments. Teacher's planning will incorporate instruction focused on strengthening student discourse and prioritizing small groups and centers based on student assessment results.
- Administrators will engage in observations, feedback and teacher professional learning driven by the results of academic screeners and end-of-unit assessments in ELA and math and differentiated based on teacher results for their classes.
- Families will engage in conversations about learning with teachers and students driven by available family reports in iReady, Really Great Reading. HMH and Envisions.
